The pocket Howard Watch Company was founded in 1857, after it was partially acquired Waltham Watch co. Which does not fare so well on its own. Edward Howard, after stating the parts and mechanisms that were still being developed in time, the company moved to Roxbury, Massachusetts and set up his own watch factory, bringing with him all the tools, parts and other essential elements required for the plant. However, it took a year for his pocket watches out in public and be marketable. Edward Howard watches were packed with innovations and improvements have been made which was relatively new to the industry.

This new pocket watch was a train “quick-beat,” the balance offset and a top plate that had two sections. A letter “N” was applied to the movement in honor of the company and its inventors. After much success with his watch, Howard then presented the movement of the stem-wind, was the first of its kind and they were made at a furious rhythm for them, demand continued to the 1900′s. This watch had enamel dials and had the name of the company (E. Howard & Co., Boston) written on it. Although the plant has never monitoring their own cases in 1902, they assigned the right to use the name of Edward Howard to the case watch making company that was the case of Keystone Watch co.

To protect yourself as a collector or seller, you need to know how to identify an authentic Waltham. Here are some steps that you can take to ensure that your is pocket watch within the proud tradition of Waltham.

• What type of pocket do you have? There are three types: There’s pocket watch which has a casing that closes over the face of the pocket watch; the open face, has no cover and winds up at the top of the watch; the final one is the sidewinder, which winds up at the 3 o’clock position and also is without a cover.

• Open up your watch’s back cover and examine it for any identifying names. Waltham pocket watches contain the letters A.W.W.Co., along with Waltham, Mass. Found on the inner side.
